2010 Friends of Fiji Gala Fundraiser

Friends of Fiji held its Gala Fundraiser, a biennial celebration of the warm relationship between the U.S. Peace Corps and the island nation of Fiji.

Food was cooked Friday in the lovo (earth oven) at Potomac Overlook Park.  The lovo was opened and the pork, chicken, fish, palusami, dalo, etc. were all safely transported to the fundraiser site before the evening rain.

The festive evening Saturday May 15 featured dancing and music by the popular Mainland Fijian Band, traditional Fijian dance, bounteous Fijian and Indian cuisine, a silent auction of beautiful items by indigenous artisans, and a raffle for roundtrip airfare/holiday in Fiji.   The raffle was won by Sialele Malpere of Samoa.  Proceeds will benefit Peace Corps Partnerships and other development projects in Fiji.
