The Peace Corps Times is a quarterly newsletter distributed to all Peace Corps Volunteers in the field. The newsletter provides Peace Corps-related news from across the globe, and also allows Volunteers to share information on their successful projects and endeavors with their fellow Volunteers and others in the Peace Corps community.
The latest issue, at http://multimedia.peacecorps.gov/multimedia/pdf/media/PCTimes2010_03.pdf, has an article “A Friend Indeed, Alumni Groups Continue to Find Ways to Contribute.” Friends of Fiji is one of the groups, with quotes from our president Rob Bartel and a picture from a recent fundraising gala.
The National Peace Corps Association invites you to sign up for their 50th Anniversary Save the Date outreach effort at http://www.peacecorpsconnect.org/50thRSVP — so that they can contact everyone about exciting upcoming events in 2011.
They are also running a video contest called My Piece of the Peace Corps. More information is available at http://www.peacecorpsconnect.org/videocontest.
Friends of Fiji held its Gala Fundraiser, a biennial celebration of the warm relationship between the U.S. Peace Corps and the island nation of Fiji.
Food was cooked Friday in the lovo (earth oven) at Potomac Overlook Park. The lovo was opened and the pork, chicken, fish, palusami, dalo, etc. were all safely transported to the fundraiser site before the evening rain.
The festive evening Saturday May 15 featured dancing and music by the popular Mainland Fijian Band, traditional Fijian dance, bounteous Fijian and Indian cuisine, a silent auction of beautiful items by indigenous artisans, and a raffle for roundtrip airfare/holiday in Fiji. The raffle was won by Sialele Malpere of Samoa. Proceeds will benefit Peace Corps Partnerships and other development projects in Fiji.

To Fiji 1-4 RPCVs:
If you have any pictures of your Peace Corps training in Hawaii that would help tell the story of the important role the Center for Cross-Culture Training and Research in preparing people for P.C. service, could you send them to Dan Hatch Fiji 1 at rev.hatch@gmail.com. He is preparing for the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Center 50 years ago next year. Note that the focus is on the training sites and activities in Hawaii, not your work in Fiji.
Peace Corps Response provides opportunities for returned Peace Corps Volunteers (RPCVs) to undertake short-term, high impact assignments in various programs around the world.
